What is MDF? What are its dimensions and structure?
“Mdflam” is a coating material coated on the surface of MDF sheets. These covering materials may include options such as PVC foil, wood veneer, laminate, melamine, lacquer paint. The covering material is fixed to the surface of the MDF board by pressing, thus creating a durable, scratch-resistant surface.
MDFlam sheets are generally preferred in furniture production. Because they have a smooth surface like MDF boards and can be coated, they offer various color and pattern options. Therefore, they can be used in the production of different pieces of furniture such as kitchen cabinets, wardrobes, bookcases, countertops, tables, etc.
What are the advantages of MDF material?
Mdflam coating material has many advantages. Below you can find some of these benefits:
- Durability: Mdflam coating materials create a durable surface by coating their surfaces. This surface is resistant to scratches and impacts.
- Easy Maintenance: Mdflam veneer materials are easy to maintain and simple to clean. Just wiping them with a damp cloth is sufficient.
- Various Design Options: Mdflam covering materials offer various color and pattern options. In this way, they allow the creation of different designs.
- Cost Effectiveness: Mdflam coating materials are more economical than other coating materials. For this reason, they are frequently preferred by furniture manufacturers.
- Unnatural Surfaces: Some MDF cladding materials have a smoother surface than real wood surfaces. Therefore, they may be better suited for certain design options.
- Fast Production: Mdflam coating materials can be applied quickly on MDF sheets. This allows furniture production to be carried out quickly.
These advantages cause Mdflam veneer materials to be widely used in the furniture manufacturing industry.

MDF board dimensions may vary between manufacturers, but generally standard sizes are:
- 122 cm x 244 cm
- 183 cm x 275 cm
- 183 cm x 366 cm
- 207 cm x 280 cm
- 210 cm x 280 cm
However, some manufacturers can also produce MDF sheets in special sizes according to the needs of their customers. The most commonly used and most stocked dimensions throughout Turkey are the plate sizes of 210 cm x 280 cm and 183 cm x 366 cm.
What is the Production Process of MDF, the Main Material of Mdflam?
MDF (Medium Density Fiber) boards are produced by combining wood fibers. The production process consists of these steps:
- Preparation of Wood: Wood pulp is obtained by first removing the bark and branches of the wood material. The dough is divided into small particles by going through various processes.
- Fiberization: Wood pulp, divided into small pieces, is converted into thin fibers with the help of a fiberization machine.
- Addition of Binding Agents: Fiberized wood particles are mixed with binding agents. These substances determine the board’s properties such as hardness, durability and water resistance.
- Sheet Making: The mixture is placed in a pressing machine and compressed under high pressure. This process increases the density of the plate and ensures its hardness. The sheets are then cut into different sizes, shaped and surface treated.
- Drying: After the pressing process, the boards are left to dry. The drying process may vary depending on the dimensions and thickness of the board.
The MDF production process generally consists of these steps. Manufacturers can optimize this process according to their own technological and quality standards.
