What is CV and How to Prepare It? CV Examples

What is CV?

CV is also used as a resume in our language. Resume is a tool for conveying information about a person, which can be briefly described as a summary of his life, including topics such as his education level, skills, experiences, interests, work experience.

It enables the individual to introduce himself/herself to the place he/she is applying to, in areas such as CV and job application. This document includes titles such as the person’s achievements to date, the experiences he has gained, and the certificates he has received. It also enables the transfer of future goals and wishes.

What Should Be Included in a CV?

First of all, let’s examine the headings that should be included in a CV one by one.

  • Personal Information: You must make a preliminary entry by providing your personal information such as your name, surname, photograph, date and place of birth, age, gender and marital status.
  • Contact Information: You must add your contact addresses such as your phone number, address or location, and e-mail address. These are very important for the place you apply to be able to communicate with you.
  • Social Media Accounts: You can also add the addresses of your social media accounts such as Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, Linkedin to your CV.
  • Education Information: You must provide your education information in chronological order, from the last educational institution you received to your first educational institution. When doing this, you must clearly state the dates you studied and the name of the institution. If you graduated with good grades, you can also add your GPA to the bottom of your school.

For example; 2017-2021 Selçuk University Faculty of Architecture and Design – Department of Architecture

  • Interests/Hobbies: We recommend that you include the activities you enjoy doing in your spare time. This helps the company you apply to get to know you better.

For example; Traveling, Painting, Listening to Music, Dancing…

  • Work Experience/Experiences: You can add your internships, work experiences and experiences under this heading. While adding your experiences, it would be positive to include your years and time period.
  • Projects: If you are an architect, engineer or designer, you can organize a section where you list the names of the projects you did during the school term, the place and year they were made.
  • Abilities: Your program knowledge, communication skills, management potential, etc. You can add a section that you can transfer.

For example; Problem solving skills, Design power, Program knowledge (Ms. Office, Autocad, 3Ds Max, Adobe Photoshop…)

  • Certificates: You can also add the certificates you received from the courses, programs or events you attended to your CV.
  • References: You can add people who will confirm your work discipline as references. Your references may be people you have worked with before or people who have witnessed your work in a field you studied.

We can summarize all the headings that should be included in a CV this way. Now let’s look at how you should add these headings to your CV design.
